ASTM A335 P22 Steel

P22 is the steel grade in ASTM A335 alloy seamless steel pipe standard. P22 is 2.25cr-mo high temperature ferritic steel for boiler and superheater. 

 

The thermal strength of ASTM A335 P22 steel is relatively high, and its creep rupture strength and allowable stress at the same temperature (temperature ≤ 580 ºC) are even higher than that of 9Cr Mo steel, and it has good processability and weldability, and good durable plasticity. Therefore, it has been widely used in the harsh working environment, such as in thermal power, nuclear power and some hydrogen equipment, such as various heating pipe belts and high-pressure vessels. ASTM A335 P22 steel has been widely used in the United States, Japan and Europe. ASTM A335 P22 steel is a mature steel with stable performance and good process performance.

Materials and Manufacture
Grade P22 Pipe may be either hot finished or cold drawn with the finishing treatment.
 

Heat Treatment:
Grade P22 Seamless Ferritic Alloy-Steel Pipe will be reheated and furnished in the full-annealed, isothermal annealed, or normal-ized and tempered condition. If furnished in the normalized and tempered condition, the minimum tempering temperature are 1250°F [675°C].

Production Equipment&Testing Machine:

Mechanical Tests Required
(1)Flattening Test-One flattening test shall be made on specimens from each of two tubes from each lot or fraction thereof.
(2)Flaring Test-One flaring test shall be made on speci- mens from each of two tubes from each lot  or fraction thereof.
(3) Flange Test-When specified as a substitute for the flaring test, for tubes having a wall thickness (actual mean wall) less than 10 % of the outside diameter, one test shall be made on specimens from each of two tubes
(4)Hardness Test-Rockwell hardness tests shall be made on specimens from two tubes from each lot.
(5) Hydrostatic Test-Each tube shall be subjected to the hydrostatic test, or a nondestructive electric test
 

Surface Condition
Finished tubes shall be free of scale. A slight amount of oxidation will not be considered as scale.
 

Product Marking
In addition to the marking prescribed in Specification A450/A450M, the marking shall include the name and order number of the purchaser.
