Description
The shell and tube type condenser,or water-cooled condenser consists of a cylindrical steel shellcontaining a number of straight water tubes, placed horizontally.
The condenser tubes are made either from steel or copper, With or without fins.
The steel tubes without fns are generally used in ammoniarefrigerating systems, because ammonia corrodes the copper tubing.
Working of shell and Tube Condenser
In this type of condenser, the hot vapour refrigerant enters from the topside of shell and condenses as it comes in contact with the straight hori-zontal tubes, containing cold water The condensed liquid refrigerantdrops to the bottom of the shell, which often serves as a receiver.
Application
The shell and tube heat exchangers are designed to remove thermal energy from the exhaust gas of natural gas, compressed air, hydraulic oil and transfer it to the water circuit. The extracted heat can be used for space heating, domestic hot water and any industrial process that requires hot water.
The water cooler/water-cooled condenser is widely used for plastic injection molding machine, air compressor, die casting machine, hydraulic system, Building Material Shops, Machinery Repair Shops, Manufacturing Plant, Printing Shops, Construction works , Energy & Mining, and other industries such as coal industry, chemical industry, textile industry and so on.

Condenser will be designed based on the operating conditions as belows:
Inlet water temp.: tW1=30ºC
Outlet water temp.:tW2=35ºC
Condensing temp.: 40ºC
Cooling water flow rate:1.5~2.5m/s
Evaporator will be designed based on the operating conditions as belows:
Inlet water temp.:tW1=12ºC
Outlet water temp:tW2=7ºC
Evaporating temp.:2ºC
Water flow rate: 0.7~1.5m/s
Unit conversion: 1 RT=3.516KW=3024Kcal/h
