Description of H-fin boiler Finned Tubes

The heat transfer tube of the boiler adopts the H-shaped fin tubes, it is to weld two pieces of steel with arcs in the middle of the arc symmetrically onto the raw tube to form the fins (ribs), the front shape is quite like the letter 'H', so it is called H-finned tube. The fins of the H-finned tube are rectangular, approximately square, with a length of about 2 times the diameter of the tube and an extended heating surface. H-finned tube can also be made into 'double H' finned tube of double-tube, with good rigidity structure, it can be applied to the longer row of the tubes.

H fin tube is used to recover the gas waste heat of the power station boiler, the industrial boiler, the industrial kiln, the ship power plant and etc, and effectively improve the utilization rate of the fuel, and the heat exchange element is arranged at the tail of the system flue.

Detail

H-type finned tube heat exchanger elements maintain a high capacity for heat transfer, possess superior self-cleaning properties and retain the ability to effect flue gas waste heat recovery in boiler renovations. Convective heat transfer coefficient is proportional to fin pitch, but inversely proportional to fin height and fin width. Integrated heat transfer capacity is related to fin efficiency, convective heat transfer coefficient and finned ratio. Pressure drop increases with the increase of fin height and fin width.

In order to improve the heat exchange efficiency and extend surface heat transfer, H-type finned tubes have been widely used in boilers and waste heat recovery in recent years. H-type finned tubes are derived largely from rectangle finned tubes. Because of their unique groove structure on the fin surface, H-type finned tubes have excellent anti-wear and anti-fouling performance.

The H-finned tube serves as the primary heat exchange element in the entire exhaust gas boiler system. This exceptional component boasts a variety of distinctive advantages.

(1) Exceptional Wear Resistance

Within the H-finned tube heat exchanger, tubes are precisely aligned, with H fins ingeniously partitioning the space into smaller zones. This design ensures uniform airflow compared to staggered or spiral finned heat exchangers. Under similar conditions, the wear life achieves an impressive 3 to 4 times increase.

(2) Minimized Fouling

Fouling typically occurs on the dorsal and windward sides of the tube. Thanks to the staggered configuration, tube bundles are easily flushed, leading to minimal fouling on the backside. When operating at suitable wind speeds, the system demonstrates excellent self-cleaning capabilities. The straight channels formed on either side of the H-finned tube allow for optimal soot management, especially when using a soot blower.

(3) Reduced Exhaust Gas Resistance

H fins create straight channels that streamline airflow, contrasting with spiral fins which increase flue resistance due to potential fouling. Utilizing H-finned tubes not only diminishes wind resistance but also curtails operational and investment costs of fans.

The H fins feature a patented zigzag structure, achieving an impressive weld fusion rate of 98% or more with steel pipes, thereby ensuring outstanding heat transfer efficiency.

With a heating area per unit length 7.8 times greater than that of smooth tubes, and advanced argon arc welding enhancing weld quality, efficiency is significantly elevated.
